Ceramic 3D Busts
Sculpting with ceramic clay is my favorite means of self-expression. Figurative and facial busts have been my passion for the last decade. I let the clay guide me by pushing, pulling, shaping, adding and subtracting. I like to have a silent conversation and connection with the medium.
I strive for a likeness, but it is more important to capture a gesture, emotion, a moment, an identity and unique personality. A human condition is more important to me than a perfect likeness.
I work primarily with live models so the sculptural forms, proportions, shapes and expression can be observed and studied in the round. Sculpting a model over an extended period, helps me capture their essence. Every face is an individual relief map which after careful study helps to capture its expression and personality,
Along with my conversation with the clay and observation of a live person, I hope to invite the viewer to have their own silent connection with my work. Each new work in progress is a challenge, and I accept that challenge for growth as an artist and incentive to continue my artistic journey.
